May 7, 2021 for students of the gymnasium named after Ivan Horvat (Bratislava) an open lesson "Holiday with tears on the eyes" took place online. It was dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. More than 30 people took part in the event: students and teachers of the gymnasium, guests from Russia and Austria.
The lesson was conducted by the teachers of the Russian Center of the European Foundation of Slavic Literature and Culture together with the teachers of the Russian language of the Slovak gymnasiums - Ekaterina Borisova and Tatyana Kraichovicova.
The event was based on the gradual immersion of the participants in the history of the Great Patriotic War and World War II, in search of answers to questions.
Students began their acquaintance with the historical role of the Soviet people in defending the Motherland and liberating Europe from fascism by studying military vocabulary.
Then they got acquainted with one of the symbols of this holiday - the St. George ribbon: they learned about the meaning of its colours, why for Russians "May 9" is "a holiday with tears on eyes" and what mean the monuments to the Unknown Soldier, which can be seen in many cities and villages of Russia.
Using paintings by famous artists who captured the most important milestones in the history of the Great Patriotic War in their various plots, gymnasium students got acquainted with the courage of people who survived in those terrible days, with the courage of those who defended cities, with those who supported the morale spirit of residents and defenders, with those who fought and won.
The lessons of the Victory, held annually for this great date by the Russian Center of the European Foundation of Slavic Literature and Culture, have become a good tradition for various institutions and cities in Slovakia.
