On October 11, 2021 at the Russian Center in Bratislava, an open art lesson "Isaac Levitan the Singer of Russian Nature" took place, dedicated to the life and work of Isaac Levitan (1860-1900), the world famous Russian landscape painter.
The event marked the beginning of a new thematic rubric of open lessons about Russian art.
The artist lived a short but bright creative life, becoming one of the outstanding painters of the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries. In less than a quarter of a century, he painted about a thousand paintings. Isaac Levitan died early, at the age of forty, about three hundred studies and forty paintings remained unfinished.
Through a multimedia presentation, those present got acquainted with the facts from the biography of the master, with the stages of his formation as an artist. We also learned why he is called the master of the "mood landscape", who and why forbade Levitan to paint landscapes of Russia.
The meeting ended with a virtual excursion to the Tretyakov Gallery and an acquaintance with a number of famous works of the artist, with the history of their creation. Pictures such as “Autumn Day. Sokolniki", "Golden Autumn","March", "Birch Grove" caused a number of emotions in those present and inspired them to write pictures of their "mood landscape".
