Easter or Bright Sunday of Christ is the main holiday of all Christians on the Planet and it does not matter at all what concession they belong to.
Easter is the triumph of Life over Death.
In 2022, Easter falls on April 17th.
Orthodox Easter in 2022 is celebrated later - April 24th.
Have you ever wondered why the date of the holiday changes every year and why Catholics and Orthodox celebrate Easter on different days?
The fact is that the current approach to determining the date of the celebration of Easter was determined in 325 at the I Ecumenical Council in Nicaea, then three rules were introduced on how to calculate the date of the Easter holiday:
1 Easter must fall on a Sunday.
2 It must be the Sunday after the spring full moon.
3 This full moon must be after the vernal equinox, which falls on March 21st. If the spring full moon occurs earlier than March 21, then the next full moon is considered Easter. And if the Easter full moon falls on a Sunday, then Easter is moved to the following Sunday.
After the Council of Nicaea, all churches, including Eastern and Western, using this simple rule, began to celebrate Easter at the same time.
Why do the dates of the Catholic and Orthodox Easter holidays not coincide at present?
The difference in the dates of the holiday exists due to the fact that the Orthodox celebrate Easter according to the Julian calendar, and the Catholic Church - according to the Gregorian calendar, which was introduced in 1528 by Pope Gregory XIII.
