Now the Orthodox continue Holy Week.
Holy Week is the last week before Easter. In the Orthodox Church, this is the most important week of the whole year, dedicated to the last days of the earthly life of Jesus Christ.
Every day of this week is called "Great", but for Thursday there is another common name - "Clean".
So why is Thursday called clean?
According to legend, at the beginning of the Last Supper, Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples, thereby showing them an example of humility and service to others.
Perhaps it was because of this that the tradition arose to clean houses and apartments on Clean Thursday. It was believed that a thorough cleaning on Maundy Thursday would provide the family with cleanliness for the whole year and help get rid of adversity. But it is worth remembering that the essence of this day is not at all about cleaning the home, but about spiritual cleansing.
In addition to cleaning, you need to take care of the Easter table: start baking Easter cakes, make cottage cheese Easter, paint eggs.
