"Outstanding Ukrainian women who will be remembered forever"

Recently, the Foundation of Ukrainian Literature and Culture in Bratislava opened an exhibition of books on the topic: "Outstanding Ukrainian women who will be remembered forever."

The exposition is represented by a set of books by Ukrainian writers from the library fund of Ukrainian literature and culture, as well as photographs of prominent Ukrainian women, who not only left their mark on history, but became an example for many generations.

At the exhibition, teachers, children and guests of the foundation recalled the outstanding writers of the past, got acquainted with contemporary writers of Ukraine and were inspired by worthy examples of famous Ukrainian women.

These Ukrainian women are another reason to be proud.

Lesya Ukrainka

Ukrainian writer, translator, folklorist, cultural activist. In the modern Ukrainian tradition, she is included in the list of the most famous women of ancient and modern Ukraine. Despite her serious illness, she managed to leave behind a great legacy: impressive poems, prose works, more than 270 poems, journalistic articles. The most famous works are "On the Wings of Songs" (1893), "Thoughts and Dreams" (1899), poems "Ancient Tale" (1893), "One Word" (1903), drama-poems "Cassandra" (1901-1907), "In the Catacombs" (1905), "Forest Song" (1911), "Boyar" (1913). Olga Kobylyanska

Ukrainian modernist writer. Masters of dramatic story and short stories. Olga was born on November 27, 1863 in the south of Bukovina. "Among Ukrainian writers, she has no equal in the field of short stories and short stories"; "Her works contain subtle outlines of the human psyche, deep analysis and knowledge of the human soul," Ivan Franko and Ignat Khotkevich wrote about the outstanding writer Olga Kobylyanska. Indeed, she entered literature as one of the first craftswomen who raised issues of female emancipation in literature. In her works, Olga drew attention to women who prefer to break away from the bourgeois environment and stand on the same level as educated Europeans. [2]

Lina Kostenko

Ukrainian writer, poet, Shevchenko Prize winner, honorary professor of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, honorary doctor of Lviv and Chernivtsi universities. Notable works: "Over the Banks of the Eternal River" (1977), "The Uniqueness" (1980), "The Garden of Unsinking Sculptures" (1987), the novel in verse "Marusya Churai" (1979, Shevchenko Prize 1987), the poem "Berestechko", 2010 ). Oksana Zabuzhko

Outstanding Ukrainian writer, philosopher. Winner of the Shevchenko Prize (2019), as well as numerous awards: the Antonovich Foundation (2008), the Order of Princess Olga (2009), Angelus (2013). Her name is associated with the emergence of modern Ukrainian literature on the world stage. One of the key and most famous personalities in modern Ukrainian literature. All of Oksana Zabuzhko's books, to one degree or another, touch upon important social issues. This Ukrainian writer is well known in the world, and her works have been translated into 20 languages. Solomiya Krushelnytska

A well-known Ukrainian opera singer, teacher, whose talent attracted famous opera singers of that time. Even during her lifetime, Solomiya Krushelnitskaya was recognized as the greatest singer in the world. Among her numerous awards and distinctions, in particular, the title of "Wagner prima donna" of the XX century. Enrico Caruso and Titta Ruffo were considered an honor to sing with her on the same stage. The Italian composer Giacomo Puccini presented the singer with his portrait with the inscription "beautiful and magical Butterfly". Salome's operatic debut took place on the stage of the Lviv City Theatre. And in the second half of the 1890s, her triumphant performances began on the stages of the theaters of the world: Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Poland, Austria, Egypt, Argentina and Chile. [one]

Ekaterina Belokur

Ukrainian artist in the genre of naive painting, a master of folk decorative painting, who literally had to fight for herself the opportunity to draw. The works of Kateryna Bilokur are exhibited in many countries of the world, they were seen even by Pablo Picasso, who highly appreciated the talent of the Ukrainian woman. [one]

Sofia Andrukhovych

Ukrainian writer, translator. Author of prose books "Summer of Milena" (2002), "Old people" (2003), "Women of their men" (2005), "Salmon" (2007) and numerous publications in the press. In 2014, she released Felix Austria, which won the BBC Book of the Year award the same year. In 2015, she won the Joseph Conrad Prize. In 2016, Sofia Andrukhovych, together with Maryana Prokhaska, wrote a children's picture book "Kurka's Constellation". In the same year, the book was included in the prestigious catalog in the field of international children's and youth literature "White Ravens" ("WhiteRavens 2017"). [3]

Maria Zankovetskaya

A well-known actress and theatrical figure, a star of the Ukrainian theater of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She entered the history of the theater as the greatest Ukrainian tragic actress, in the created stage images she personified the symbol of Ukrainian women. By the way, the real name of the actress is Adosovska, and the pseudonym comes from the name of the village of Zanki in the Chernihiv region, where she comes from. The creative path of the actress began under the guidance of Mark Kropivnitsky. [1]
