Our Lady of Sorrows (or more commonly: Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows) and in Latin she is called Beata Maria Virgo Perdolens or Mater Dolorosa, this is one of the many titles by which the Catholic Church venerates the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus.
It is sometimes also referred to as "Notre-Dame des Sept Langueurs", as in Boutissaint (Yonne). The title emphasizes the mother's connection to her son's suffering. The "seven pains" refer to the events described in the Gospels that caused the mother of Jesus to suffer as she accompanied her son on his mission as Savior. September is dedicated to the Sorrowful Mother of God, liturgically commemorated on September 15th.
