April 5, 2023 at the Gymnasium. Ivan Horvat in Bratislava hosted a thematic lesson “Chekhov: a writer or a doctor?” Dedicated to the activities of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, a brilliant prose writer and playwright.
The event was organized and hosted by the European Foundation for Slavic Literature and Culture. Its participants were teachers of the gymnasium and students studying the Russian language.
The beginning of the event was marked by the solemn presentation of certificates to the participants of the International Literary Project "The World Reads Chekhov". Recall that the project was organized by the administration of the city of Taganrog - the birthplace of the writer. More than 400 admirers of Anton Pavlovich's work from 70 countries of the world recorded on video excerpts from his works voiced by them. Successfully presented their work and students of the gymnasium. Ivan Horvath Diana Duritsova and Mirka Bizikova. Diana read the story "Ah, teeth!", and Mirka read the story "Thick and thin."
Then, as part of the educational part of the event, the participants got acquainted with interesting facts about the life and work of Chekhov, a doctor, writer, playwright and just a cheerful sociable person with a deep soul. We learned about his charitable work and trip to Sakhalin Island, about his many pseudonyms, about how he lovingly called literature and medicine, what European cities he liked to visit and how he fought the disease. Attentive students briskly and with interest reasoned and argued: “But didn’t medicine interfere with Chekhov the writer?”.
