Every year on May 24, residents of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Bulgaria and many other Slavic countries celebrate the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture. The holiday is dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Saints Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius, who created the alphabet and gave rise to Slavic writing.
In honor of this day, the European Foundation of Slavic Literature and Culture held an educational online campaign "Day of Slavic Literature and Culture". The history of the holiday”, which was attended by students of Russian language courses, members of the conversation club, library readers.
With the help of an interactive and dynamic presentation, the guests got acquainted with the history of the holiday, learned why Cyril and Methodius are called equal to the apostles and how the Cyrillic alphabet appeared.
Of particular interest was a master class on writing the study of the Slavic book.
The participants with pleasure tried themselves in the role of ancient chroniclers, writing their names in the Glagolitic alphabet. During the master class, the participants noted that in Slovakia and the Czech Republic the feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius is celebrated on July 5 - as a reminder of the symbolic anniversary of the arrival of the Slavic missionaries Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia in 863. They also unanimously agreed that this holiday contributes to the unification of the Slavic peoples and the celebration of the great cultural heritage.
