International Youth Day is celebrated annually on August 12. This day is dedicated to young people and highlights their importance and contribution to the whole world. The holiday was established by the UN General Assembly on December 17, 1999, on the recommendation of the World Conference of Ministers of Youth held in Lisbon (Portugal) from August 8 until August 12, 1998.
Each year, events dedicated to Youth Day (including various concerts, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, flash mobs, webinars, etc.) are held under a certain motto. Every year the theme of the holiday changes.
In 2023, the theme is "Green skills for youth: towards a sustainable world".
Many cities in Slovakia celebrate this day. For example, in the town of Spišská Nová Ves, an event dedicated to International Youth Day was held with the participation of local artists, singers and youth organizations. The event took place in the main square in front of the Evangelical Church and was attended by dozens of young people along with their parents and friends. The crowd was fantastic and provided a great atmosphere throughout the entire event, which ended with a great Oldies party.
On this beautiful day, let us remember how important young people are to our society and let’s honour them!
