One of the bipedal feasts of the church year, the Ascension of the Lord, will be celebrated by the Orthodox in 2024 on June 13.
This day commemorates the ascension of the risen Jesus Christ. The Ascension of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ is a church holiday based on the event of Jesus Christ's ascension into heaven. It took place, according to historians, in the middle of May in 30th year of the first century A.D. on Mount Olivet to the east of Jerusalem.
The holiday is celebrated by the Orthodox on the 40th day after the feast of Great Pascha. It was on this day, according to the Law of Moses, that parents brought babies after birth to the temples to the Lord.
Accordingly, on the 40th day after His resurrection, Jesus Christ was to enter the heavenly temple. According to the Gospel of Mark and Luke and the Book of the Acts of the Holy Apostles, after his resurrection Jesus appeared to the apostles for 40 days, telling them about the Kingdom of God and preparing them for the coming ministry.
