At the memorial complex "Slavin", where about 7 thousand soldiers of the Red Army who died for the liberation of Bratislava were buried, a solemn ceremony of laying wreaths was held.
The solemn ceremony was attended by Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Slovak Republic A.L. Fedotov, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, members of the Government and deputies of the Parliament of Slovakia, heads of diplomatic missions and military attachés of different countries, representatives of political parties and public organizations, veterans of war, compatriots and numerous media.
The ceremony was attended by a Guard of Honor in national uniforms and a state military orchestra. Anthems of Slovakia and Russia were performed. Under the sound of solemn melodies the ceremony participants laid wreaths and flowers to the memorial of the fallen Soviet soldiers.
Employees of the Russian Center in Bratislava and the European Foundation of Slavic Literature and Culture also took part in the solemn ceremony. The delegation laid a wreath at the memorial with a ribbon and an inscription.
Then the participants of the official ceremony moved to the center of the city to the Monument of the Liberation of Bratislava by Red Army, where according to tradition they also laid flowers. The monument was erected on the Gvezdoslav square on the "people's money" collected by the inhabitants of Bratislava.
