On the 9th of March 2017, in Bratislava, solemn events dedicated to the 72nd anniversary of the Victory over fascism in the Second World War were held.
On this day in the center of the city, on the square in front of the Slovak National Theater, was held a concert of the cadets' brass band of the Moscow Musical Cadet Corps, whose performances were organized by the Russian Cultural Fund. Despite the cold weather, several hundred residents and guests of Bratislava gathered to watch their performance. The marches and melodies of the war years were performed by pretty boys in military uniform. The audience applauded and sang along. The song "Katyusha" was sang by all visitors.
The official celebration of the Victory Day took place at the Slavin Memorial Complex, where about 7,000 soldiers of the Red Army who died in the battles for the liberation of Bratislava were buried in mass graves. Officials and ordinary citizens, Prime Minister Robert Fizo, heads of the National Council (Parliament), ministers, heads of political parties, Slovak and Russian veterans, heads of the Slovak Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters, representatives of public political organizations, the International Association of Reserve Officers, cadets of the Moscow Cadet Music Corps, Slovak youth, compatriots and diplomats from different countries - all of them have participated in the celebrations.
The participators were greeted by Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Slovakia A.L. Fedotov, who emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the act of bravery of Soviet soldiers. Participators were also greeted by the Prime Minister Robert Fizo, who told about deep gratitude to the veterans of the war, noted the inadmissibility of falsifying the results of the Second World War, expressed a negative attitude towards renaming bridges and streets, called on everyone to fight extremism. Their speeches were repeatedly interrupted by applauses, people shouted approval words and also words against NATO sounded.
Several thousand people took part in the solemn ceremony. Compatriots passed as a separate column. Many of them brought portraits of their fathers and grandfathers, participants in the war. This action of the Immortal Regiment was headed by the non-governmental organization of Russian compatriots "Union of Russians in Slovakia". The descendants of war participants from Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belorus and other countries passed in a single column. There also were many children and young people.
The delegation of the Russian Center and the European Fund of Slavic Literature and Culture took part in all ceremonial events. The delegation took part in laying flowers at the Slavin memorial, the employees handed out St. George ribbons to all visitors, held meetings and talks with veterans, welcomed the participants of the Historical Club who came to the action in the military uniform of the last years of war and brought a copy of the Victory Banner. Also very warm meetings were held with mayors of cities, Slovak military and compatriots who came from different cities of Slovakia. All of them wanted to wear a St. George ribbon, as a symbol of the heroic Victory.
There was a wonderful atmosphere of unity of the Slavic peoples, brotherhood and joy of meetings, friendly handshakes and smiles. There were a huge number of banners, wreaths and flowers.
After the ceremony of laying wreaths, an official reception in the Russian Embassy was held. By tradition, this day was celebrated in all the cities of Slovakia. All state and public media widely covered this event.
