On the 21st of March 2019 in the Aircraft Gallery in Bratislava, the opening of the exhibition of paintings by the famous Slovak artist Adolf Benz was held.
Currently his works are in the collections of various museums of the world: the Metropolitan and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the museums of Washington and Atlanta, Rome and Tel Aviv, Hong Kong and the Slovak National Gallery. Most of his works are in private collections.
The collection of his works, exhibited on the river barges on the Danube river, which was so called “The Floating Gallery of Adolf Benz”, gained wide popularity and international recognition.
His works are compared with the great masters - Rembrandt, Goya and Munk. In his paintings, the artist mainly displays gloomy motifs, often associated with the theme of death.
In 1968, he emigrated with his family to America. He obtained an Academic Artist degree at Columbia University in New York. Having obtained a Fulbright grant, he studied philosophy and anatomy in painting in Italian Bologna. In 2001, he decided to return to Slovakia and continued his work at homeland.
The Russian Center of the European Fund of Slavic Literature and Culture provided informational support and participated in the preparation and opening of the exhibition. On the opening day, the Russian Center invited students from bilingual schools and gymnasiums from Bratislava. For many students the works of compatriot became a big discovery.
The exhibition has a strong emotional character. Vivid images and demonic nature of the scenes did not leave anyone indifferent. The exhibition was prepared by the Academy of Adolf Benz.
