On the 3d of July 2019, a Russian language and culture seminar on the theme “Slavic Enlighteners Cyril and Methodius” dedicated to the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture was held in the Russian Center of the European Foundation of Slavic Literature and Culture in Bratislava.
The 5th of July is a state holiday in Slovakia. It is dedicated to the founders of the Old Slavic alphabet and Church Slavic language, to the preachers of Christianity - Cyril and Methodius. This day is widely celebrated in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic every year.
These saints are especially honored in Slovakia, as they began their educational activities in the ancient Slovak city of Nitra.
The seminar was attended by students of Russian language courses. There was a discussion about the differences in the perception of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Russia and in Slovakia. Participants discussed the difference between the Glagolitic and Cyrillic scripts, noted the closeness of the Slavic languages and peoples. The question was raised about the use of Latin and Cyrillic scripts by Catholics and Orthodox.
To illustrate the topic of the seminar, books from the funds of the Russian Center library devoted to the history and culture of Ancient Russia and the Russian Orthodox icon were presented.
