On February 28, 2020, an open lesson in the Russian language and culture was held at the Private Slavic Gymnasium in Bratislava. It was dedicated to Russian folk traditions on the theme “Oh, Maslenitsa!”.
High school students saw various features of one of the favourite holidays of Russians and could compare it with the Slovak holiday Fashank. According to the ancient Slavic tradition, winter is seen off on this day. In Slovakia the holiday is called Faschank, in Russia – Maslenitsa.
At first, the lesson was held in the classroom. Gymnasium students got acquainted with the history of the holiday and its contents. They completed tasks on Worksheets, participated in the competition. Then, a video fragment from the movie of N. Mikhalkov “The Siberian Barber”, which perfectly demonstrates traditional Russian amusements at Maslenitsa, was presented to the children. At the end of the lesson gymnasium students listened to thematic songs.
The final part of the lesson was the most fun and provocative. On the golf field near the school, the gymnasium students played Russian folk games: "Broom throwing", "Trickle", "Fight of roosters", "Khorovod", pantomime "Show Maslenitsa".
Everyone heartily played enough, received prizes and expressed a desire to continue such lessons!
According to the reviews of the gymnasium teachers, the children really liked this lesson. It was helpful, vibrant and emotional.
