On May 15, 2020, an open online lesson in Russian was held. It was dedicated to the Victory in World War II against the Nazis with the title "Lesson of Victory" for high school students of the Ivan Horvat Gymnasium in Bratislava.
The Russian center of the European Foundation of Slavic Literature and Culture conducts a series of "Lessons of Victory" in Slovak schools and gymnasiums.
The theme of the lesson was the joint struggle of the Slovak partisans and the Red Army in the liberation of Slovakia from the Nazis. The Slovak national uprising in August 1944 was the largest in the years of World War II.
High school students willingly and proudly shared the stories of their families.
During the presentation, students independently with interest read aloud in Russian language archival documents that were opened by the Russian Ministry of Defense and which testified to the events of that time.
At the end of the lesson, the gymnasium students answered the question: why do we keep the memory of the events of 75 years ago and pass it on from generation to generation?
The best answer was the desire of the gymnasium students to le arn more about archival documents - military codes, acts of Nazi atrocities in Slovakia, telegrams about how the local population greeted the Red Army. In conclusion, all participants honoured the memory of the fallen with a moment of silence.
Materials of the lesson with the indication of archival sources were transferred to the gymnasium. According to the teachers of the gymnasium, the lesson aroused genuine interest and was useful for students.
