On January 29, 2021, on the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust, the Russian Center of the European Foundation of Slavic Literature and Culture in Bratislava hosted an online seminar on the topic “Memory of Generations”.
The seminar was held in Russian and began with reading the words of the famous researcher of the Holocaust I. Bauer: "The memory of the Holocaust is necessary so that our children are never be victims, executioners or indifferent observers."
During the discussion of the topic, the issues of the origin, spread and end of the Holocaust were raised. The importance of preserving the memory of this terrible phenomenon was especially noted.
The keynote speech included historical facts about the functioning of the Nazi-created Auschwitz death camp.
The course participants and university students took part in the seminar. They took part in the discussion, expressed their views on the inadmissibility of such phenomenons, talked about why one should not consign to oblivion and distort the facts of the tragic pages of history. The participants also got acquainted with new vocabulary.
The meeting was emotional, everyone could express their opinion, tell about their ancestors, what their life was like during this terrible period. Films and poems dedicated to this period were also recalled.
The seminar ended with listening to a popular Soviet song to the words of Yevgeny Yevtushenko "Do the Russians want war?" The song sounded symbolically in the performance of one of the foreign students who took part in the International Marathon "Great Songs of the Great Victory" on the YouTube channel, organized by the Russian World Foundation.
